Great characters and just an overall fun and engaging story with strong replayability. Well worth it for the price.. I've played quite a few Choice of games (or at least text-based games) but for those who haven't, this is a good one to start out on to familiarize yourself with the genre. No visuals here, just a story where you control the main character through your choices, which shape the game experience.The story here is good as well as accessible, which is pretty typical of Choice of games. There are some different endings depending on your options, although choices don't have as much of an impact as they do in some of the other games. It was pretty easy to get all of the achievements (in some choice games, I've struggled to find the right combo to unlock some elusive achievements).Another plus is the gender/sexuality options. Neither your gender nor your sexuality has an impact on the story, and you have a good variety of ways you can interact with other characters. The characters themselves are mostly interesting, although there are several minor characters who pop in and out but don't add much.Not all choices have an impact on the story, but there's enough variety that you can still have different experiences on multiple playthroughs.. It is a very good game and i would recommend this game to people who are looking for a story to make their own.. very engaging! A fun play!. I recently bought this game, it's the first Choice of Games product I've played and I've just finished my first play-through today! I think it's a decent amount of time to finish (I might be a slow reader) and won't fail to please. I'd be lying if I didn't say I wish there was more it was that good and having stats was pretty useful. This'll likely be one of my favorite RPGs from now on and despite all the text I'd highly recommend it's worth giving this game a shot! However there seemed to be something missing from the characters to me, can't pinpoint what exactly but it was something.In short, I'd recommend this game to those who enjoy RPGs such as I do and I hope you'll equally enjoy this game as much as I did!. Aside from generic high fantasy and superheroes, pirates seems to be a popular genre for CYOA works from Choice of Games. Several of their offerings already explore life and on the high seas. Not to disparage the other fine offerings already on hand but I hold the opinion that Choice of the Pirate is the best one of them yet.For one, it presents a wide scope in the narrative with a meaningful choice between civilization and freedom. Neither side is shown to be an absolute good but rather present different views on what people value in life. It also has a strong Carribean feel with native magic being intrinsically tied to nature. The set pieces are fun, especially as you meet creatures like merfolk, sea monsters and ghost ships. Overall it is well-written and a fun romp. Each playthrough takes approximately 40 minutes which is decent for a CoG title so no fear of a truncated game either. I won't lie, the previous two offerings from CoG did not impress me much. Heroes: Redemption was basically the author strongarming the reader into listening and playing along with the author's political views while Sea Eternal was kinda meh. Choice of Pirates on the other hand is a strong offering that ranks alongside some of their best works.. Great story! I recommend it.. Honnestly, I'm more caught up in this amazing story than I would like to admit... I find myself closing my most cherished game just to continue this fabulous adventure with my favorite first mate, Caesar. In my opinion, it is totally worth the money, as it is entertaining, full of action, and done with a touch of humour that makes the whole experience great. The absence of sound or whatsoever first felt a little weird, but it's actually totally making you the real designer of the game, as you are the one creating the scenes in your imagination. I'd give it a solid 5/7
